Shift’s design will focus on the interaction between contrast and texture. Variations between smooth dark wooden floors, rustic stones, light grey walls and shelving, dark wooden beams, white textile lighting fixtures, gold accents, and a deep purple drop ceiling for contrast will all help achieve this effect. Sustainability has played a role in the selection of materials. The flooring selected is from Mountain Lumber’s Reclaimed Wood series, featuring wood floors made entirely out of reclaimed wooden pallets. The forms in the space are modeled after the fashions of the clothing designer, Edun. They are feminine, simple, and geometric, and that is what I wish to create within the space. I plan to utilize the soft surfaces within the lighting as well as the clothing and drop ceiling to help limit acoustic resonance.

The floor plan of the space has been planned based on way finding. The space is broken up into smaller sections to help lead consumers through, and I have focused my layout on ensuring that the visitor will see everything in the store before exiting. I have ensured this by creating a set in entrance wall, forcing shoppers to explore the store. The central portion of the store has a 4’ drop in ceiling height; this area will be reserved for jewelry displays, a seating area, as well as the cash wrap. This is because wanted to reserve a feeling of intimacy within this area. I have repeated the set in entrance in the fitting room to enhance the cohesiveness of the overall design. This area will also have a ceiling height of 10’ for increased intimacy and an additional seating area.
